Home Security
The Threat
Remember the old joke that when you’re in the ocean and a shark appears that you don’t have to swim faster than the shark – you only have to swim faster than your friend? This principle is true also in the case of protecting your home from criminals. Your home doesn’t have to be Fort Knox. It just needs to be more secure than other potential targets in the area.
According to the FBI, a burglary occurs in the United States every 14 seconds. The Burglary Prevention Council reports that over 62% of these occur during daylight hours. The average property loss amounts to $2,079 and nearly two thirds involve forcible entry.
In the city of Atlanta an average of 20 residential burglaries occur each day.
Some simple facts that you need to keep in mind:
- Home security systems are not designed to keep criminals out of your home
- Door frames are typically constructed from soft wood, making them relatively easy to kick in
- Windows are an obvious “weak entry point”
- An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure – simple, preventative measures can dramatically improve your home’s security
A SIMPLE, AFFORDABLE SOLUTION
As is the case with most preventative measures, there are a few simple things you can do to protect your home.
At 3AM we offer a combination of services and products that provide a simple solution tailored to your specific home security needs. Our focus is on securing what have proven to be the weakest points of entry – doors and windows.
We offer a combination of door frame reinforcements, The Door Club, and security film for glass that help to protect your home in the event of an attack.
Door Frame Reinforcements
Because most door frames are made from soft wood material, it is important to reinforce these to protect against kick-ins.
Some attempt to do this by installing a large metal strike plate onto your door frame. While this can be an effective deterrent, it is typically unsightly. The products usually come in only white or black – which may not match your existing door hardware or trim. Additionally, these products tend to encroach on your door’s reveals (the space between the door panel and the frame). The reveal on most doors is less than ¼”. Adding metal plates in this manner may affect the smooth operation of the door itself, making it hard to open and close.
At 3AM, we reinforce your door frames by installing metal plates inside the door jambs. After installation, your door and trim will look just as they do now. Our reinforcement is not visible, so it doesn’t affect the appearance or operation of your door unit. The plates are typically 4 feet long and 2 inches wide. We insert them into your existing door frames. So there’s no new door to purchase and no unsightly metal objects attached to your door unit.
The Door Club™
The Door Club™ is a revolutionary home security device. The Door Club™ is one of the strongest anti-burglar devices available, far superior to chain locks and deadbolts.
The Door Club™ can take it! Once installed, the Door Club™ easily resists over two tons of direct force, preventing burglars from kicking the door in, and keeping you safe and secure.
Security Film
We recommend security films from 3M. Because the window film helps hold the glass in place, criminals don’t have the quick access they need to conduct a successful smash and grab attack. Often the window slows them down to such a degree that they may choose to move on to an easier target.
